Dolphin and Whale watching from Calheta

All year round you can watch dolphins and whales off the coast of Madeira. Near the coast the Atlantic has already a depth of 3000m which means a perfect habitat for a lot of different marine life as for example Atlantic Spotted Dolphin, Bottlenose Dolphin, Common Dolphin, Striped Dolphin, Risso´s Dolphin,  Rough-toothed Dolphin, False Killer Whale, Short-finned Pilot Whale, Blainville´s Beaked Whale, Sperm Whale, Bryde's Whale, Sei Whale, Fin Whale and sometimes even Orcas, Blue Whales, Minke and Humpback Whales

The "Cetos/Pakicetus" is a speedboat with place for 12 passangers and 2 crew members. Next to the whale and dolphin watching this boat is offering a short swim stop and the possibility of snorkling with dolphins.

The "Ribeira Brava" is a cozy traditional Madeiran fishing boat, which has been restored with lots of love. It has place for 16 passengers and 4 crew members. It's offering you the freedom of movement and a toilet below deck.

Snorkeling with dolphins: 

At this activity you are not actively swim with dolphins but passively float on the surface and being towed slowly on a rope which is connected with the zodiac. This guarantees a gentle and safe encounter for both parties.

It is very important that you are familiar with using a snorkel and a mask.

Snorkeling with dolphins with the "Cetos/Pakicetus":

Adults: 80,- Euro (boat tour 60,- Euros + upgrade snorkeling with dolphins 20,- Euro)
Children under 13 years: 55,- Euro (boat tour 35,- Euro + upgrade snorkeling with dolphins 20,- Euro)
Because it's the open Atlantic and wildlife, snorkeling with dolphins isn't possible on every trip. You only pay the surcharge for the snorkeling with dolphins upgrade if it actually takes place.
Please already have your bathing suit on under your clothes and please also bring a towel and if necessary a sweater or jacket for afterwards.

Snorkeling with dolphins with the "Steno":

Adults: 89,- Euro
Children from 8 years to 15 years: 67,- Euro

Because it's the open Atlantic and wildlife, snorkeling with dolphins isn't possible on every trip. If the snorkeling with dolphins did not take place, you will be refunded 27,- Euro per adult directly after the tour.
A wetsuit is required for snorkeling with dolphins on the Steno. You can borrow this one day before the from Lobosonda for 5,- Euro.
